Economic Development / Social Enterprise
HAPI is a community of fair trade artisans using their creativity to make a variety of products for the international gift market.

Job creation, particularly for women, is the core of HAPI: Women invest in their children's education, nutrition and health. Providng them income through economic opportunity directly impacts HAPI's development objectives of promoting gender equality, eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, and improving health. A household where the woman earns cash income reduces domestic tension / violence. All of these factors contribute to developing a 'community of peace with justice'. It is a just solution because it pays a fair wage within the local context, is a safe and healthy environment, enhances self-worth, and incorporates the dignity and sustainability of productivity.

The Haitian Staff consists of:
Paul Prevost, Director of Human Relations and Community Development
Eddy Joassaint, Director of Finance and Administration
Francoise Ridore, Director of Quality Control for Textiles
TBD, Director of Quality Control for Non-Textiles
There are currently 30-45 artisans working with the majority being women between ages 20-45.

The co-op building is located in the mountains of Mizak Haiti and works in a rented facility from 9am-3pm. These hours allow the women to travel and maintain their homes during daylight hours.

Business and Leadership Development

HAPI continues to work on capacity development of staff and expand those in leadership roles in the various programs, through volunteer mentoring, local seminars, and international training when possible. This is considered a Haitian business with US encouragement.
